Mrs. Fitzgerald’s First Name

Posted by Josianne Fitzgerald on 9th November 2006

My first name is Josianne. According to the website, www.howmanyofme.com, there are no people with my name in the U.S. Of course, I’m not in the U.S. at the moment, so it’s accurate, but it also means that I’m the only Josianne that would be living there when we return. It’s almost like being famous.

Also according to this website, there are 80,992 people in the U.S. with the last name Fitzgerald. It is the 406th most popular last name. (tied with 20 other last names).

Go ahead, find out if your name is popular in the U.S. www.howmanyofme.com.

Insects and Robots

Posted by Josianne Fitzgerald on 8th November 2006

As part of our Field to Table unit, some of our students are trying to find out about the process of making robots. We have not had much fun finding information on how to make real robots, but we have found lots of websites on robots and what real robots can do.

Low Life Labs webpage

Low Life Lab is an interactive website where scientists show what they have learned about insects, and how they have turned that into robots that move and behave like bugs.

See all the different types of bugs, watch a couple of movies, and play a robot simulation game, all at www.robotsandus.org.
